DCAS Winter Postals 2014-15
Hi all
Alan has asked me to relay some information to you re the Winter Postal league in Devon and Cornwall.
We would like as many members as possible to shoot a scoring round for this every month, then Alan can choose the best scores from each category to submit to DCAS for the postal tournament.
The winter postals and frostbite start in November, the first score submitted each month will be the only score that counts. The 3 best scores per month will make up each team; in the case of more than one team the best scores will be split into groups of three, and submitted as Team A, Team B etc.
The cut off date for scores for both postal and frostbite will be 15th of each month.
Postals consist of a Portsmouth round (60 arrows at 20 yards, 10 zone scoring on a 60cm face*; six sighters may be shot). *Senior compound archers should use a 60cm 3 spot vertical face.
The teams for postals consist of:
1 Compound
2 Recurve
1 Longbow
1 Junior (Mixed Styles)
The Frostbite round is an outdoor one for the winter. Frostbites rounds consist of 36 arrows at 30 Metres and must be shot outside; six sighters may be shot. Frostbite teams are made up of mixed styles, with one compound archer only.
We have one adult frostbite team.
If as many people as possible score a round for the postals, Alan will be able to make up teams, we did well in the Summer postals, and it’d be great to do even better in the Winter ones
Changes to Club Sessions & Coaching availability
We are always looking for new ways to provide members with opportunities for progression, and this month we are launching two new programmes:-
Boost – Is a six session course of intermediate coaching which aims to provide new members with the knowledge and enthusiasm to take their archery forward. The course consists of sessions focussing on shooting, and Archery GB drills and skills training, as well as sessions on equipment and progression. This course is by invitation, and the first sessions will commence next week.
Squad Coaching – This will be a continuous series of sessions open to all members who have the desire, and dedication, to take the next steps in archery. Through individual observations and action plans, the coaches will proactively assist individuals looking to represent the club at competition, or reach a new performance goal. There is no magic wand for improvement, and delegates will be expected to practise the corrective actions given. Anyone wishing to attend a session, or series of sessions should register with Nik via admin@brixhamarchers.co.uk.
These sessions will commence on Weds 5th of November at 7pm and be run on alternate weeks, as displayed in the web site calendar.
In order to make these facilities available, we have had to make a change to the Club sessions.
- There will be no Wednesday evening club sessions from Wednesday the 29th of October. The Wednesday afternoon, and Juniors sessions are unchanged.
- The Unit will be open for a replacement club session on Thursday Evenings, commencing Thursday 6th of November.
- The Unit will not be open on Thursday the 23rd of October.
Halloween Shoot – The Halloween shoot previously advertised for Wednesday the 29th of October has been rescheduled to Thursday the 30th of October.
Thursday Evenings
We have been selected as a pilot club for the Archery GB Boost programme, which will be a series of 6 structured coaching sessions aimed at improving archers coming out of their beginners course and into the club and competition environment.
As these sessions are planned and scheduled over the next couple of weeks, we will be ceasing the Thursday evening Improvers session as currently delivered. This week, Thursday the 9th will be the last evening that the Unit is open for this.
We, as a coaching team and committee, are working on running Boost modules every alternate week, and open intermediate coaching / squad training in between. Further details will be published as they are finalised
It is predicted that the first Boost session will be scheduled for Thursday the 23rd of October. Details of how to register will follow
Many Thanks
Nik
